How we got here.

 Dear friends and family,

This blog is a place for our family to provide updates on both my mom and dad's health journey.  Thank you so much for your love and support as you keep up to date with news and needs.  

Here's how we got here:

In December my mom and dad both had their first bout of Covid.  We are so grateful that they did not have Covid earlier when interventions were few and vaccines were not available.  Around this time my mom was having issues with breathing and my dad, issues with feeling like food was stuck in his esophagus.  Symptoms slowly but surely increased and led to a visit for both to the emergency room on Sunday.  

Many tests and exams have been done throughout this week and from my understanding from the doctors they have determined the following:

My mom has aFib which has caused an enlarged heart and heart failure.  They have done interventions this week to help put the heart back in regular rhythm but unfortunately it has not stayed in rhythm.  They currently have her on medication to address this and as of now the plan is to do an ablation procedure in early April.  She hopes to go home today (February 18) but we are still waiting on a few test results to get the green light.  

My dad had an endoscopy and a variety of other tests to determine what is causing his blockage and rapid weight loss.  He has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer.  The PET scan and CT scan revealed that the tumor is self-contained. He will begin radiology and chemotherapy in early March.
